For the second consecutive year, the Quebec Open, held at the Delta Hotel in Sherbrooke, was a huge success. The initial prize money to be paid out was $ 5,000.00. Due to the outstanding number of registrations, the Quebec Dart Association paid out $ 7,030.00 in prize money in the six events held January 26, 27 & 28.

The Quebec Open, an annual event held around theprovince over the past seven years has always brought out the best players in Quebec and from across Canada. 1995 was the second time the Eastern Townships had been host to such an event. The last time being the 1982 Provincial Championships.

Among this year's contenders in the Mens division were:

John Part: 1994 Embassy Champion; 1995 Canadian National & Canadian Open Champion; top money winner in the U.S. as of November 21, 1995 and ranked 27th in the World as of October 16, 1995 (Oshawa, Ontario). John Ooms: 1995 World Cup Team member for Canada (British Columbia). Yves Chamberland: 1993 Canadian National Champion; 1990, 1993 & 1994 Quebec Champion, and the first dart player from Quebec, to be invited to play at the prestigious Embassy Tournament held in England in 1995; 1995 World Cup Team member (Aylmer, Qc). Chris Leslie: 1990, 1995 Canadian National Champion (Ontario). Andre Masse: 1982 Canadian National Champion (Waterville, Qc). Carol Brassard: 1995 Quebec Champion (Blainville, Qc).

And from New Brunswick, Rick Fortin came back to defend his 1995 Quebec Open title. On the women's side were present:

Rani Gill: 1982, 1989 Canadian National Champion; 1986 Canadian Open Champion (Ontario). Lise Filiatrault: 1995 Quebec Champion; 5th at the Canadian Nationals in 1995 (Montreal, Qc). Doreen Loughran & Robin Curry: ever present on the Ontario Dart scene with many impressive top four finishes under their belts from Canadian & U.S. tournaments.

The Blind Draw Mixed Triples held Friday night saw 38 teams of dart players out to win part of the $ 1,140.00 in prize money. Saturdays Triples drew 54 teams; Mens Doubles 71 teams, and the Ladies Doubles 32 teams. Sundays Singles event had 104 registrations for the men and 48 for the women. These were the largest singles event registrations in Quebec's history of Open Dart tournaments. The Quebec Open will be held in Sherbrooke once again next year, as player turnout has proven the Estrie region a choice location.

The Quebec Dart Association would like to thank the following for their sponsorship of the 1996 Quebec Open Dart Tournament:

Hotel Delta Sherbrooke, La Cage Aux Sports (Sherbrooke), Gerry Trophies (Sherbrooke), Village Grec (Lennoxville). Special thanks go to the Royal Canadian Legion in Sherbrooke, the Estrie regions' organizational committee; Eric Gravel (Director), Rosalie Mc Millan (Sec./Tres.), Mary Dezan (Provincial Director), Brian Perrault (Ass. Director) and all of the players and spectators who attended in such large numbers from around the Townships to make the "Open" the best ever.

Good Darts and see you next year!
