The American Darts Organization sanctions tournaments throughout the country and issues ratings points to the top winners in the singles 501 and singles Cricket events.Ratings points or ADO points are issued according to value of the prize purse and the number of participants in the singles events. Points are divided by 4 in tournaments with payouts of less than $5,000. Points are divided by 2 for payouts between $5,000 to $19,999.
The American Darts Organization participates in the Winmau Masters Competition held in England. (ed: The current WDC/WDF turf war may force the USA out of this event in 1995. More on this subject soon.) Local associations hold tournaments and send their winners to the regional finals, then the area finals and then the national finals. The 1994 national finals winners were Joe Futima from Lee, New Hampshire and Linda Sims from Savannah, Georgia. Youth Champion was Barry Russell. The 1995 deadline for the association playoff is July 23rd. The regional playoffs will be the weekend of August 25-27th. The national playoffs will be announced. The American Darts Organization pits the Eastern players against the Western players each year at the Challenge Cup during the North American Open weekend in August in Las Vegas. In 1995 the East beat the West.
Another world event which the American Darts Organization participates in is the Pacific Cup which is limited to those counties whose borders touch the Pacific Ocean. Countries who sent teams in 1995 included Australia, Canada, United States, and New Zealand. This event is held every other year.
On the years that do not play the Pacific Cup, the American Darts Association plays an All Star event. Association deadlines are May 7th. Regional Playoffs will be the weekend of June 9-11 and the East-West Challenge used as the National Finals for the All Stars event will be August 11.
One of the popular certificates awarded by the American Darts Organization is for the exceptional achievment of a Ton 80 (or 3 triple-twenties in one turn). Those successful achievements are listed in the ADO newsletter, the DOUBLE EAGLE which is published quarterly. Other certificates issued and then acknowledge about in the DOUBLE EAGLE are 170 On and 170 Out.
